Hal Rammel (aluminum piano), Ed Herrmann (instruments by Tom Nunn), Eric Leonardson (springboard) perform as part of an opening celebration for the kinetic art exhibition Motor Cocktail at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Bernard and Francois Baschet’s aluminum piano – originally exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1965 and the Arts Club of Chicago in 1969 – has restored by the MCA for this exhibiton.

On Friday, July 1st, Hal Rammel will perform on the Aluminum Piano of Francois and Bernard Baschet in a trio with Eric Leonardson and Ed Herrmann at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. This performance is part of the opening celebration for Motor Cocktail: Sound and Movement in Art of the 1960s, an exhibiiton of kinetic sculpture at the MCA throughout the summer.

“This is the first palette I ever built – early in 1990 – and I began to use it in live performances about a year later. Through my work with cellist Russell Thorne I was invited to play on the Experimental Stage at the Williamson Street Fair. This is just an excerpt from a solo set that included several other instruments including musical saw and wine glass.” (Hal Rammel)
